Lina Hermsdorf

The examination of the borderlines between the living and the lifeless is a continuous theme in Lina Hermsdorf’s practice. What does one experience in his time as (a)live and real? Can we still apply these categories or have we arrived in a world which some define as ‘liquid’ or ‘atmospheric’.

Often mediated through lecture performances or text-based installations, Hermsdorf’s essayistic works unfold narrative threads that explore the way power structures, technology and biological structures affect each other to shape our emotional surroundings. Having worked in the field of theatre before transitioning into the visual arts, her practice is informed by cross-disciplinary techniques, engaging with characteristics of living organisms as systems that receive, store, exchange energy and information.
