Alexey Vanushkin

Alexey Vanushkin’s practice is motivated by an obsessive drive to produce a highly charged work with a multiplicity of meanings. Using text, video and minimalistic installations to create disturbing atmospheres, his works liberally appropriate chunks of material from popular culture, literature, commercial production, personal testaments, intimate stories and official reports. The genres of documentary and fiction are bent and repositioned by the artist onto equal footing, producing moments of genuine confrontation with the viewer by challenging received notions of lifestyle and aspirational desire.
